Country music icon Dolly Parton will be remembered at next year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival, with organisers announcing an epic tribute concert.

Dolly Parton passed away on 25 August at the age of 80. She died after a “brief battle” with cancer, representatives for the singer confirmed. Parton’s passing was announced by her nephew, Bryan Seaver.

An intimate, private funeral was held for Parton’s family on 28 August – she was entombed beside her husband, Carl Dean, at the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville.

Following the news of her passing, tributes poured in from music and entertainment stars worldwide. In January, another special tribute will be held at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Remembering Dolly – A Tribute to the Queen of Country is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 20 January, at 7:30 pm at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC) – the site that hosted a Dolly Parton show in February 2014.

The show will be led by Brendan Radford, who’s set to be accompanied by the Golden Guitar Awards Band, produced by Peter Ross, and feature an abundance of talented singers.

Artists including Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, Catherine Britt, Denvah, Dylan Wright, Fanny Lumsden, Felicity Urquhart & Josh Cunningham, Hayley Jensen, Kirsty Lee Akers, Lyn Bowtell, and more will perform, with others to be announced.

According to a press release, the concert has been designed to celebrate Dolly Parton’s legacy beyond music and showcase her incredible life and unmatched achievements. Attendees are invited to “wear denim or diamonds” to honour Dolly in their own way.

Tamworth, the country music capital of Australia, is the city it is today with the support of Dolly, not only through her music, but through the gift of a local Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

In Australia, the early literacy initiative that’s designed to give children a book each month from birth to five years old is funded locally and based in Tamworth. The Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Tamworth is financially supported by the regional council, local clubs, local businesses, individuals, and organisations.

A portion of tickets for Remembering Dolly – A Tribute to the Queen of Country will be donated to the local Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Tickets will be available from Thursday, 10 September, via the Entertainment Venues website.

Launched by Dolly in East Tennessee in 1995, the Imagination Library sent out its 100 millionth book in 2018.
